Wednesday, 09 June 2010 - Visit to the new Robert Burns Birthplace Museum

Members of the Civic Society visited the site of the new museum on Wed 9th June 2010.   We started by visiting the Tam O'Shanter experience and then had time to see the Auld kirk with its beautiful stained glass windows, the Auld Brig and Burn's Monument and gardens before having a talk by the architect of the new museum about its construction.   It has been built using wood sourced in Scotland and the Lake district and it will have a sedum roof.   The heating system uses Heat Pumps built by drilling 80 meters down and pumping water down to be heated before circulating as underfloor heating.    After this talk we went to Burns cottage where Mr David Hopes gave us a conducted tour of the four rooms - the grain store, the byre, living room and the kitchen.   It was a most enjoyable day and we wish to return when the new buiding is opened around September/October

Wednesday, 11 November 2009 - The Civic Society members agreed at their last meeting to hold an Open Forum to enable the public to hear the arguments for and against the proposed coal fired power station at Hunterston.  This meeting can not be arranged until Peel submit their planning application to the Scottish Government.  This may mean that the meeting has to be arranged at short notice but we will endeavour to get the information out to everyone as soon as possible

Saturday, 12 September 2009 - The Society has produced a new publicity leaflet which has recently been delivered to the new housing estates in the village along with leaflets about other organisations in the village.  It is hoped that this will bring new people to our meetings and perhaps an increase in our membership.

Thursday, 15 January 2009 - Change of name

Good news  - OSCR The Charities regulator has approved our change of name and we are now called West Kilbride Civic Society.    We will shortly be changing our Web page but it will be possible to access it from the old website for some time.

Wednesday, 24 December 2008 - 'Tis Christmas Eve, and we wish to thank all of you for your support during the past years and hopefully for the coming years as well.  We wish you a very Happy Christmas and a healthy and bountiful New Year!

Wednesday, 10 December 2008 - The 9 December off-schedule presentation by representatives from Living Villages was well-attended by local residents.  Unfortunately, it was evident that the presentation lacked substance in dealing with specifics concerning their aspiration to develop a "planned community of cluster housing" in the Chapelton area.  The most objectionable aspect of their plan, was to develop a community of approximately 85 dwellings in a very limited space.  The meeting was concluded with the developer realising that they were unprepared to coherently address concerns and questions posed by the audience.

Thursday, 30 October 2008 - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - 28TH OCTOBER

There was a good attendance at the AGM when the proposal to change the name of the Society to West Kilbride Civic Society was passed.  A new committee was elected.  Norman McGillvray who has been secretary of the society for many years has resigned.  We are grateful to Norman for all his hard work on behalf of the Society.   The membership subscription remains unchanged but the fee paid for each meeting was increased from £1 to £2.

After the AGM,  Mrs Elizabeth Colquhoun gave a most interesting and entertaining talk about the West Kilbride Museum.  She brought along some exhibits to display and she described them and their importance.

Tuesday, 19 June 2007 - Welcome to the introduction of the West Kilbride Amenity Society website!  We look forward to being able to communicate with our membership (and with those who wish to become members) in a more timely fashion.  If you have constructive comments...please share them with us.  If we can make improvements...we can but try.  If there are issues you would like to have addressed...let us know.  To this end, we are considering initiating a Forum page...soon.
